Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Afghanistan and Borlaug Higher Education for Agricultural Research and Development (BHEARD) program coordinators visited the college of Agriculture and veterinary Sciences. They held a meeting with the dean, Faculty of Agriculture (Prof.Kimenju) and Senior Faculty members.

The purpose of this visit was to discuss training with the focus on wheat production in Afghanistan. Wheat produced in Afghanistan is not sufficient and the production is low as compared to the neighboring countries. Therefore they explored how College of Agriculture and veterinary sciences could offer training to Afghan Masters and PhD students to build capacity to increase wheat yields.

The proposal was to adopt the BHEARD model of training where the students will be sponsored to take courses in the university of Nairobi and Carry out Research in their Country.

Prof.Muthomi during the presentation said the college has trained cohorts from different countries and the university has the capacity to meet the needs of the trainees and the governments they represent.
