Despite the importance of agriculture to sub-Saharan Africa, growth in food production has not matched population increase: Food insecurity is the result. Universities and other agricultural tertiary education institutions have been slow to respond effectively to this need. PREPARE –BSC seeks to address tertiary agriculture education on principles elaborated in Framework for African Agricultural Productivity (FAAP). The PREPARE-BSc project will develop interventions founded on knowledge. Although the core activities will be based at the East African universities, tracer studies will be undertaken at secondary school level to determine attitudes and perceptions of students, teachers and parents on careers in the field of agriculture. At the same time, in-depth study of the job market will be performed to know the nature and qualities that agricultural work demands of university graduates. Similarly, data on employer satisfaction of graduates produced by the partner universities will be collected. The staff involved with training graduates of agriculture will be also assessed on attitudes, perceptions, methods and practices of teaching, assessment and examinations. The gaps on determined training and preparation processes and also on the quality of graduates will be addressed by making adjustments on the training field.
