This morning, the University of Nairobi conferred and awarded 5,301 graduands in various Degrees and Diplomas from College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS), College of Architecture and Engineering(CAE), College of Biological and Physical Sciences (CBPS) and College of Education and External Studies (CEES); four of the six Colleges in the University. The 53rd graduation ceremony was graced by Chancellor, Dr. (Mrs) Vijoo Rattansi, Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter M.F Mbithi, Deputy Vice Chancellors, University Leadership and Faculty members. More than 16,000 family members were also present to witness this outstanding occasion.
It was a distinctive occasion in the fact that it marked the first convocation being presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter M.F Mbithi since he took over as the 7th Vice –chancellor early this year. Secondly, it was the highlight of the fist public presentation for Doctor of Laws by the University; an occasion when Justice Prof. J.B Ojwang’, Justice of the Supreme Court of Kenya, graduated with High Doctorate Degree, Doctor of Law (LLD).
During this occasion, Chancellor, Dr. (Mrs) Vijoo Rattansi officially launched the University Endowment Fund and invited other stakeholders to support the growth of the Fund. With a target of raising Ksh. 1 billion to support scholarships, research and innovation for graduate students and faculty members, the University of Nairobi still remains the pinnacle establishment of providing research solutions and academic excellence globally.
