The Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies is honoured to have participated in the University of Nairobi’s 8th Open day that was officiated by the Prof. P. M. F. Mbithi, the Vice, University of Nairobi. This event was held at the Great Court, Main campus from February 1-3, 2018 under theme, “Tapping into opportunities for knowledge, skills and values.” The open day provided an ideal platform for the Institute through which it interacted with the prospective students and the general public who learned about WMI’s academic programmes including PhD in Environmental Governance and Management, MSc. in Environmental Governance, the ongoing short course, Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit and other upcoming short courses including; Environmental Education Management of Medicinal Biodiversity and the Youth Rediscovering Community Indigenous in Management of Indigenous Vegetables.

The National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI, Kenya), and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS, Japan) have just approved a two-year research project entitled “Development of Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Human Health Impacts in Urban Area of East Africa” The two-year project will focus on the nexus climate change-food and nutrition security-human health. The core partners in the project include Wangari Maathai Institute (The University of Nairobi), the Graduate Programme in Sustainability Science – Global Leadership Initiative (The University of Tokyo) and Hokkaido and Ehime Universities.

"Launch and Grow: The Kenyan Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program” is a unique program offered to select groups of both emerging women entrepreneurs and seasoned Kenyan women entrepreneurial leaders. The Women for Africa Foundation, through collaboration with Babson College and Banco Santander, seeks to offer a transformational and very unique learning experience designed to accelerate the impact and success of bussinesses of the participating entrepreneurs. The program includes an intensive one-week residency at Babson’s main campus located near Boston, Massachusetts, USA in addition to e-learning, coaching, and mentoring post-program in Nairobi.

CAVS principal and the members of the college management board met with the college international students at Clinical studies seminar room. While addressing the students, the principal encouraged them to be the university ambassadors in their countries.

College of agriculture and veterinary science currently has 162 international students from more than 26 nationalities.
