Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies hosted Prof. S. Shelpler, and ten students from American University, Washington, DC on January 11, 2017. The students paid a courtesy call to the Institute to learn more about its activities and how it is implementing the walks and works of Prof. Wangari Maathai.

 Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies holds the introduction meeting for implementation of the second phase of the Launch and Grow: the Kenyan Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Program at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Upper Kabete Campus on January 9, 2017. The launch and grow program consists of a mentoring process for fourteen women entrepreneurs beneficiaries. Its goals include capacity building for the entrepreneurs through training in Boston at Babson College, e-learning through the webinars particularly on finance, growth and corporate governance, coaching and community building. The Institute will implement the program in the next twelve months in close coordination with Babson College supported by Women for Africa Foundation (Murejes por Africa). The launch of the program was graced by Prof. S.G. Kiama, Principal, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Prof. Henry M. Mutembei, Director, Wangari Maathai Institute, Ms. Wanjira Mathai, Advisory Council Member, Mujeres Por Africa and Dr. Jane M. Mutune, Wangari Maathai Institute.

A parallel session on conceptualizing planetary justice held at the Small Pathology Lecture theatre

Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies was honoured to co-host the 2016 Nairobi Conference on Earth System Governance from December 7-9, 2016. The conference was held at the University of Nairobi, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Upper Kabete Campus. Addressing the theme dubbed, ‘Confronting Complexity and Inequality,’ the conference was the 7th in series and being held in Africa for the first time. The conference was organized by the Earth System Governance Project and was also co-hosted by German Development Institute, Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), Keio University, Lund University, Stockholm Environment Institute – Africa Centre, Utrecht University, and Yale University with support by the Earth System Governance Foundation and the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS). It was endorsed by the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and Future Earth.
