Conference in session

Prof. Jesse T. Njoka of African Dryland Institute for Sustainability (ADIS) and Dr. Oscar Koech, of the University of Nairobi, Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) attended the 2nd International conference on drylands organized by the Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) in Bayero University, Nigeria, Kano (BUK).The conference took place  between 12th and 16th December , 2016.

The theme of this year conference was, “Agricultural diversification – Panacea to Food Insecurity in Drylands”.The conference served as one of the outreach activities of CDA that provides a platform for researchers and other stakeholders working in the drylands to showcase their research output, share experiences and form networks with peers working the same thematic area. Diversification and innovation were noted as critical components that are required to address the multitude of problems in the drylands related to constraints on i) sustainable intensification of farming systems ,ii) sustainable management of natural resources in a changing climate ii) accessibility and efficiency of markets and policy constraints.

CDA is one of the foremost Africa Centres of excellence funded by the World Bank and the Association of African Universities (AAU).
