Speaking during the visit, the head of the inspection team Dr. David Okeyo, who is the CEO noted that KNDI, has a mandate to ensure quality in the nutrition and dietetics profession.  The organization was established under Act, No. 18 of 2007. The organization deals with continuous professional development (CPD) of its members, internship opportunities for students and professional examinations.

A parallel session on conceptualizing planetary justice held at the Small Pathology Lecture theatre

Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies was honoured to co-host the 2016 Nairobi Conference on Earth System Governance from December 7-9, 2016. The conference was held at the University of Nairobi, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, Upper Kabete Campus. Addressing the theme dubbed, ‘Confronting Complexity and Inequality,’ the conference was the 7th in series and being held in Africa for the first time. The conference was organized by the Earth System Governance Project and was also co-hosted by German Development Institute, Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), Keio University, Lund University, Stockholm Environment Institute – Africa Centre, Utrecht University, and Yale University with support by the Earth System Governance Foundation and the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS). It was endorsed by the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and Future Earth.

Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies was honored to have Dr. Linus Muli conferred and awarded with degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Governance and Management by the Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi during the 56th graduation ceremony that was held on December 2016.  Dr. Muli graduates in exactly three years since he was admitted to the degree. His study was on, “Opportunities and challenges of Indigenous and Modern governance systems for sacred forests: Case of Kaya forests at the coastal region of Kenya. The Institute also had three students, Ms. Kong’ani, Ms. Kinyori and Ms. Nyamai awarded degrees in MSc. in Environmental Governance. It looks forth to continue fast tracking and producing holistic graduands in line with the University regulations.

Prof. Henry M. Mutembei, Director, WMI, Prof. Charles Mulei, Dean FVM, County Officers and Vet students during the disaster training session in Baringo County

The Wangari Maathai Institute in conjunction with Faculty of Veterinary Medicine conducted a successful community outreach in Baringo County. This was held between November 23 – 25, 2016 where fifteen final Vet students and ten County officers were trained on disaster analysis and needs assessment, participatory response identification matrix (PRIM) and disaster response.

Mr. Julius Mbatia, 4th year student, LARMAT at the UNFCC COP 22 meeting

Mr. Julius Mbatia a fourth year student pursuing BSc in Management of Agro ecosystems and Environment, in the department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT) at the University of Nairobi (UoN) participated in the just concluded UNFCC COP 22 meeting.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) meeting was held from 7th to 18th November 2016, in Marrakech, Morocco. The theme of this year’s conference was “Turning Paris Agreement into Action

The Paris climate agreement entered into force faster than anticipated following the ratification by more than 55% of countries which is 55 countries.
