Embu between 29th September 2016 and 2nd October 2016.

Prof. S.G. Kiama was invited to attend and participate in the second Ministerial Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation in Africa that took place in Rabat, Morocco from the 14th to 17th October, 2014. Hosted by the Government of Morocco and organized by the African Development Bank (AFDB) and the Government of Finland, the Ministerial aim was to engage African ministers in charge of higher education, science and technology as well as industry in academic, civil society and scientific communities globally on how to promote inclusive and green growth through scientific and technologies innovation in Africa.

The panelists included: Prof. S.G. Kiama, Director, Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies,University of Nairobi, Peter Carter, Chief Environmentalist, European Investment Bank, Kurt Lonsway, Manager, Energy, Environment and Climate Change Department (ONEC), African Development Bank (AfDB) and Samantha Smith, Leader, the Global Climate and Energy Initiative: World WIde Fund for Nature.

The Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies has received approval from NEMA to offer training in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Auditing (EA) after meeting all the requirements set by the Authority. The course duration will be three weeks of intensive  training and will be offered to persons who shall have qualifications suitable for registration as Lead or Associate Experts as specified in the EIA/EA Regulations (2003), or any other person interested in becoming conversant with issues on Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Auditing.

                Jane Mutune, Tutoral Fellow & PhD student at Wangari Maathai Institute giving her presentation in one of the Drylands, Desert and Desertification sessions in  Sede Boker at Ben-Gurion University of Negev, Israel.

The international conference on Drylands, Deserts and Desertification (DDD) has emerged as an important global gathering of scientists, practioners, industry, government and other stakeholders from 60 countries concerned about land degradation in the Drylands and their sustainable use and development. The 5th DDD conference focussed on Healthy lands-Healthy People and considered natural and anthropogenic processes and interactions between Drylands and people around them. The program combined plenary lectures and panels, parallel sessions, workshops, field trips and social events, that provided an opportunity to consider a range of theoretical and practical issues associated with combating desertification and living sustainably in the desert.
