The Department of Land Resource Management and Agricultural Technology (LARMAT), in conjunction with the African Drylands Institute for Sustainability (ADIS), organized a one-day regional curricula review workshop at KARLO Headquarters, Loresho on Thursday 6th September, 2018.

The goal of the workshop was to peer-review a proposed multidisciplinary Regional Masters Programme in "Petroleum Governance and Sustainable Development" (PELIBIGO), as required by the Inter-University Council for East Africa for regional programmes. The curriculum has been developed by the University of Dodoma in collaboration with Makerere University, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). The Programme development process is supported by NORAD under the Energy and Petroleum (EnPe) Programme https://www.norad.no/en/front/funding/enpe/.

The workshop was convened by Dr. Stephen Mureithi, the University of Nairobi’s PELIBIGO Peer-Review Coordinator.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) London journalists held an interview with Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies on the compliance with the recent ban on the Single Use Plastic bags, basically looking into the compliance levels one year down the line, what informed the ban including it implications on the traders and the general public. The interview was held with the Prof. Nzioka J. Muthama, Deputy Director together with Mr. E. Odhiambo who is carrying out a study on the same.

The Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies (WMI) in conjunction with One Nation Under God Kenya (ONUG), National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), Amani Clubs – Kiambu and the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) among other stakeholders holds a fruitful 5th committee planning meeting for the National Symposium on Environment and Peace (NSEP) 2018. The symposium will be held on September 21, 2018 at the WMI, College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, University of Nairobi.

The Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies successfully mounted the August, 2018 class for the Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit course. The five (5) course participants were drawn from diverse professional backgrounds including training and research institutions among others. The participants were trained by experienced environmental assessment practitioners from the University, NEMA and independent consultants.

A presentation by UNHABITAT

Stakeholder workshop was held on Wednesday August 1, 2018 at the Jacaranda Hotel, Westlands – Acacia Conference room, Nairobi. It was convened by C4DLab and brought together non-motorised transport stakeholders to conceptualize the automation of the University of Nairobi Bikeshare system.  Participants, drawn from key organisations, including UN-HABITAT, Green Africa Foundation, The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) and University of Nairobi, among others, attended.
