Kibwezi and Ngong forest field station

Tree planting functions was held at Ngong Forest and the Kibwezi field stations, during the current November-December 2012 rains. A total of 3000 seedlings, mainly of indigenous species were planted. 1000 of the seedlings were planted at Ngong station and 2000 at Kibwezi field station. The seedlings have been carefully selected to ensure those planted  at the Kibwezi station are dryland species suitable for the semi-arid Makueni County environment. About 250 students and 15 members of staff, led by the Principal CAVS, Prof. A. Mwang’ombe participated.

This were the fourth and fifth tree planting ceremonies respectively hosted by CAVS this year. The first event was in May during the University’s Annual Tree Planting Day, followed by the second in June to mark the World Environment Day, when 15,000 and 3000 seedlings, respectively were planted. On 2nd November, about 7500 seedlings were planted at Vet Farm, Kanyariri.
